Why have we never gone back to the moon?

There isn't much reason to do it. Although there are plans to build a research outpost on the noon (like the space station is a research outpost in low earth orbit), some people are saying just skip that and go straight to Mars already. Like several other people said, going into space is extremely expensive so we are constantly reevaluating our priorities.
