Do recessed lights/can lights always cast a shadow?

I would like to put can lights over the mirror in my bathroom to replace a bry broadway fixture. There is another light in the room, but it isn't close enough to light up the mirror. Is this really a bad idea? I have gotten a lot of mixed messages. Am I nervous about shadows for nothing, or will I be dissapointed??
