Have they discovered if autism is hereditary?

I have a beautiful 8 year old son how suffers from autism and I also had a brother how suffered from mild autism but he died when he was 12 in a auto accident. Someone told me that autism is not hereditary and I just wonder if that finding has changed or if it were true in the first place.
